Is it Worth Investing in Social Media for Business?

With 4.9 billion social media users worldwide in 2022, there is no doubt social media use is still on the rise. According to Hoot Suite 2022 Global Digital Overview, people are getting more intentional with their online time, yet even with the current average of 397 minutes per day globally, users still spend more than 40% of their waking life online. 

Although people are getting more selective, this just means it is more important to be purposeful with creating content that adds value to your client’s online time. 

Sometimes it can be hard to invest in social media if perhaps you aren’t one of those people who spend much time online. 

I would suggest an exercise where you explore these questions.
Take time to write them down and answer each genuinely: 

▪️“Who is your ideal client and what are they doing with their time?” 

▪️“How would they find you and build a relationship with your business if not on an online platform?” 

▪️“Will that approach, scale your business quickly towards your goals without taking all your time?” 

If you do see the benefit of a business Social Media presence, where do you begin?

The GDO report shows that no matter the platform, the users predominantly are the same. 

So when choosing the platform to invest in, choose the one you enjoy the most as a user, because you will then be motivated to spend time engaging your clients there! 

I enjoy Instagram best because I find it can showcase both the professional angle of a business through educational content and events, while also allowing a smooth transition to personal stories and lifestyle sharing. 

Then perhaps the question is, what kind of content is worth investing in?

What we can all agree on is that short-form VIDEO / REELS can’t be avoided. According to the GDO, Reels have jumped by almost 50% over the past three months and in data.ai’s latest ranking Youtube holds the top rank for most average time spent. Figures for Oct 2022 show Instagram Reels ads now reach 758.5 million users and TikTok continues to climb in revenue. 

Generally, as a Social Media Manager, I find a blend of static posts, and video/reels is necessary to connect to as many types of users in your audience as possible. 

Lastly, you might be realizing that this endeavour is a full-time job! Who has the time?

I do! Social Media Managers are the fastest growing industry at this time, because of just that.

No matter the report they all share that over 80-90% of consumers will make more purchases from a company after a positive customer service experience. SMM services help build you a raving fan base, and manage online customer inquires which ultimately boosts revenue.
